Kiva Loan - Go Peru!

... adding to my Kiva loan "portfolio"... love this way of engaging...

"Maria, 29, lives in the region of Piura in the district of Tambogrande. It is a more humid region of northern Peru which grows a large quantity of mangoes and limes. She lives in her own home along with her partner and their three children.

Maria manages a small general store in the front of her home, selling everything from candy to rice to toilet paper to gifts. She is very well known in the area due to her high quality products and good selection.

This will be her first loan from Edpyme Alternativa with which she hopes to take advantage of bulk discounts and expand her inventory in order to increase her market share. She feels confident about the demand for her products."

Good Luck Maria!!!

Titz'n Glitz - gala tonite!

On the occasion of this evening's fund raising event in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia,  my third October donation was donated online to Titz'n Glitz.   www.titznglitz.com/halifax_home.htm   I am happy to add my support (hee).

"Titz'n Glitz Halifax raises funds for a project that was initiated in 2000 called
On The Front Line (breast cancer fund).

Money raised through Titz'n Glitz feeds this fund which provides short term financial assistance to Nova Scotia men and women with breast cancer who are in financial need.

Funds provided by Titz'n Glitz are distributed with the help of hospitals and social work departments across the province, to aid breast cancer survivors in financial need. Often, some of the most stressful realities are of a financial nature, including incidental costs. Women were missing chemo treatments because they couldn't afford a babysitter."

Thanks Rhonda Meyer for the idea!

Kiva.org - micro loans to relieve poverty

Hi:
Latest donation is to Kiva.org.

Actually this is a micro-loan vs. a donation.  But I plan to keep lending back into Kiva indefinitely by recycling the money as the loans get paid off.   Kiva is a cool organization as the website says;

"Kiva's mission is to connect people, through lending, for the sake of alleviating poverty. Kiva empowers individuals to lend to an entrepreneur across the globe. By combining microfinance with the internet, Kiva is creating a global community of people connected through lending."

My loan went to support a group of people in Peru - specifically towards buying  fabrics and tools for a clothing business.

Relieving poverty by helping to make people self-sufficient?  I'm in.

Protecting natural habitat - Land Trusts

The Nova Scotia Nature Trust's Mission is "... To protect Nova Scotia’s outstanding natural legacy through land conservation. We envision a future in which Nova Scotia’s native species, and unique habitats and natural landscapes are protected in perpetuity, and in which this natural legacy is appreciated and actively stewarded."  see  http://nsnt.ca/aboutus/

I've been a long-time supporter of this great organization. It's hard not to like the benefits of protecting natural habitat so that everyone can connect to the sacredness of being in nature.  The NSNT's annual dinner and silent auction is on October 28th in Halifax. I've donated to this event as my first giving target in October.
