My first charity this month is Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW website) .
(SCAW) donations provide bedkits to children of any race and/or religion who will benefit the most; typically being located in underdeveloped and developing countries.
No portion of a bedkit donation is spent on administration — 100% reaches a needy child. That is cool!
Why bedkits?
Michael
An idea popped into my mind while meditating one day; why not challenge myself to give away some money every month to different interesting causes? I will look for charities and Social Ventures of interest anywhere in the world, and will split my monthly giving "quota" between several charities/organizations. It's time to become a philanthropist! Fortunately, there is no minimum dollar requirement. Why not join me? Explore! Offer some ideas, post a link, talk about where you give.

Plant a Mango Tree!
For a neat site that let's you choose from a catalogue of real gifts that go to needy villages, check out http://www.plancanada.ca/ . In this site you can donate mosquito netting, a farm kit including seeds to a needy area, and even gift animals like chicks or a pig!
I choose to donate the planting of 3 mango trees in a school yard. I hope they make it to fruition!!
see http://plancanada.ca/giftsofhope/shopexd.asp?id=1 ....not sure about the pig idea...
Cheers,
Michael

The Challenge = $108 of Monthly Donations
Hi! Welcome to this Blog!
An idea popped into my mind while meditating one day; why not challenge myself to give away some money every month to different charities? I will look for charities of interest anywhere in the world, and will split my monthly giving "quota" between several charities/organizations. It's time to become a philanthropist! Fortunately, there is no minimum dollar requirement.
[Philanthropy is the effort or inclination to increase the well-being of mankind, as by charitable aid or donations.]
Hey! Then I thought, if I share this challenge with others, then they may also get inspired and join the challenge! Hopefully, they could also share their favourite and newly discovered charities (or other ways of giving) on this Blog. That would give me more ideas for my own future donations, and could be of interest to other Bloggers too. Cool.
By donating to many different charities I figure it will make me (us) more aware of the many needs in the world, and by actually donating, I (we) can actually be of real benefit vs. just thinking about it!
[I've chosen to give $108/month. Why the $108? Well, it's known as a sacred number, and for me it represents all the beings in all realms. This ties into having a big "aspiration". In buddhist practice (yes, I'm a buddhist practitioner), making regular, really big, positive aspirations is part of your practice, such as, "May all beings be happy". Just thinking that thought with feeling effects your mindstream, and also (apparently) has a more cosmic benefit - let's say it produces 'good vibes'.]
So $108 is just my number, you could use any amount. I challenge YOU to make regular donations (of any amount) to new and different charities, and report back here to share your ideas, reasons for donating, and the charity info/link on this Blog. I hope you share this with your friends and send them the link to this Blog. The world needs a lot of help! Your comments on this Blog may inspire others, who inspire others...
May this Blog creates good vibes!
